General Tao Tofu

This tofu recipe is full of flavour it might even convince those who think it’s totally tasteless. Tofu is also a great plant based protein that is a staple in many Asian dishes. Because it’s naturally bland on its own, it pairs well with dishes that include strong flavours or sauces.

Directions

Step 1 

Cook rice according to package directions. Set aside.

Step 2 

Cut tofu into cubes (about 1 inch by 1 inch). Place tofu in a bowl with the cornstarch, shake to coat.

Step 3 

Heat the frying pan over medium-high heat. Add oil, and fry tofu until browned on all sides. Remove from the pan.

Step 4 

Fry green onions, and broccoli together until softened. Add ginger, garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and water. Stir until sauce has thickened.

Step 6 

Add tofu back into the pan and stir to coat the tofu with the sauce. Serve with cooked brown rice.

Tips & Variations

  • To make this recipe gluten free, make sure you are using gluten free soy sauce or tamari
