In a large pot, heat 2 teaspoons of oil over medium heat. Fry the onion and garlic for 2 minutes or until translucent. Add the spices and cook for 1 minutes before adding the rest of the sauce ingredients.
Bring to a boil, cover, and cook on low heat for 15 minutes. Pour into a blender and blend until smooth. Set aside.
In a large frying pan over medium heat, cook the oil. Add tofu to a bowl, and add the cornstarch and spices. Toss to coat the tofu.
Brown the cubes of tofu on all sides until golden. Add the sauce to the tofu.
Serve curried butter tofu with rice or naan bread and steamed beans or another vegetable.
