Place tofu on a plate, and place another plate on top. Place something heavy on top like a pot, and let sit for 30 minutes to drain water.
Empty water from tofu, and cut tofu lengthwise, and then in half to make 4 squares.
Place in a bowl and add the barbecue sauce and water. Let sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
Add cornstarch, garlic powder, and paprika to a bowl. Add the tofu, and press to cover in this mixture. This will help crisp up the outside when you fry it.
Heat a frying pan over medium high heat with 1 tablespoon of oil. Place the tofu squares in the pan and cook until browned on both sides (2 to 3 minutes per side).
Top the burgers with your favourite toppings – coleslaw and quick pickled cucumbers are delicious!
