Have you ever made a muffin in a mug? Get ready to have your mind blown.

Muffins are generally considered to be healthy, but did you know that many store-bought muffins can have just as much sugar, fat, and calories as cake? If you are looking for a healthier alternative, that can be made in under 5 minutes, a mug muffin is a perfect solution!

Not only do mug muffins have less sugar, fat, and calories than most store-bought muffins, they also have more protein (10g!). Such a great choice for breakfast or an afternoon snack. You can even make them ahead of time and store in the fridge or freezer.

All you need is the ingredients, a mug, and a microwave, and it will be ready in a flash (or 2 to 3 minutes).

1. Mix the Base:

Our base recipe is the building blocks for our muffin. Banana can also be swapped with apple sauce, and the maple syrup or honey is optional! The protein comes from the whole egg :).

2. Add Fruit:

Choose a fruit add-in to increase the sweetness in your muffin. We love adding dried cranberries.

3. And Veggies:

Vegetables in a muffin? Yes. Yes indeed. Adding a veggie into your muffin helps keep it moist and is not that out of the ordinary (think carrot cake, pumpkin, or zucchini bread!).

4. Pump up the Flavour:

We are definitely fans of adding more flavour. Spices are a great way to customize your muffin, or add in some cocoa powder for a chocolate twist.

Note: this recipe only works in a microwave. Since there is no added oil to this recipe, if you bake it in the oven, it will become dry.
