Whole Wheat Pie Dough

This recipe for pie crust can be used in sweet or savoury recipes. It uses part whole wheat flour for more fibre. Use to make a delicious pot pie or sweet apple pie!

Directions

Step 1 

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. 

Step 2 

Coarsely grate the butter on a cheese grater. Add the butter to the flour.

Step 3 

Add the cold water, and mix until the flour has absorbed all the water and no dry bits remain. You can add more water 1 tablespoon at a time until it is absorbed. Make sure you keep the dough as dry as possible. If you add too much water, your crust will be rubbery and not flakey.

Step 4 

Form into a ball, and wrap in plastic. Place in fridge for 30 minutes.

Step 5 

Use dough in your recipe as described.

Tips & Variations

  • If using this recipe for a sweet pie, you can add a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, or the zest of a lemon to add more flavour.
