This healthier version of a party mix is a great school-friendly snack! It also is a big crowd-pleaser if you have friends over and are looking for a healthier option! Have your kids help to prepare the party-mix; they can measure and mix the ingredients together before baking, and combine the cooled party-mix and popcorn!
Preheat oven to 250˚F (125˚C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Combine the cereals, pretzels, and crackers in a large bowl. Mix together the melted butter, honey, and spices and pour over the cereal. Stir to coat evenly.
Spread the mixture out evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 45 to 60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes or so until dry.
Air-popper: Place kernels in air-popper with a large bowl underneath and turn on. Once all of the kernels are popped, turn air popper off and set aside. Stove: Add oil or butter to a large pot. Add kernels and cover with a lid. Using a kitchen cloth, grab the handles of the pot and lid, and shake or swirl to move the kernels around every minute. Wait for the kernels to pop, about 3 to 4 minutes, continuing to shake and swirl the kernels regularly to prevent them from burning. Pour into a bowl and set aside.
Combine the cooled party mix with the popcorn in a large bowl and mix well.
Serve a 1 1/2 cup serving of the mixture for a tasty, nut-free snack!
Try different seasonings on your popcorn, like cinnamon or nutmeg, or salt and pepper if you like it more savoury.
